Environmental Management of KC, Inc.

Environmental Management of KC, Inc. (EMI) was founded in 1997 in Kansas City, Kansas. The purpose of EMI is to meet the needs of the utility industry and associated industries in handling their used, non-hazardous transformer oil. Instead of utilities viewing their used oil as a costly waste, EMI has changed the dynamics of this waste into a positive dollar commodity for the generator. At the same time, EMI has allowed the generator to reduce their carbon footprint by recycling the used oil for future reuse.

Since inception, EMI has utilized a process of chemical dechlorination to effectively remove the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) content of transformer oil to <2 ppm thereby ending the liability chain for clients. This process is still in operation today, and will continue to be utilized for hard to handle PCB oil. EMI has added a second treatment process with which to handle and re-refine transformer oil. A proprietary hydro-treating process was added to EMI’s facility and commissioned into operation in July of 2013. With this process EMI is not only recycling the waste for clients, but re-refining the oil back to virgin standards.

No matter the quality of transformer oil waste generated, EMI has the process and capability to end the liability chain associated with the waste, all while reducing the client’s carbon footprint.
